The Japan Foundation (JF) launched the “ASEAN-Japan Exchange Program for Secondary School Educators” in 2024, and for the first year of the program, we divided the participants into two groups (Group A and Group B). In November, school principals from secondary educational institutions in ASEAN countries (Group A), as well as social studies teachers (Group B), were invited to Japan.

During their 8-day visit to Japan, the participants deepened their understanding of the country through lectures, site visits focused on Japan's efforts toward achieving the SDGs, cultural experiences, visits to educational institutions, and interactions with educators. On the final day, each participant developed an action plan.
Participants shared feedback such as, "It is very valuable to interact directly with teachers from other countries," and, "As teachers, it is our role to understand the solutions to common regional issues and convey them to children and those around us."

After returning to their home countries, the participants applied the knowledge and experience gained from the program in Japan by making presentations to fellow educators and conducting lessons related to Japan in their respective fields. Such activities will contribute to the development of the next generation of educators who will be responsible for the exchange between ASEAN countries and Japan.
Two months after the program, on January 31, an online alumni event was held, bringing together participants from both Group A and Group B.
Details of the project are posted on the JF official website.
