The Japan Foundation (JF) presented the special performance “Philippines x Japan Friendship 2026 STELLA DANCE JAM (SDJ)” in Manila to commemorate the 2026 Japan–Philippines Friendship Year, marking the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between both countries. The event featured RIEHATA, a globally acclaimed dancer and choreographer of Japanese and Filipino heritage, and SB19, one of the Philippines’ most popular and influential P-Pop groups.
In addition to the headline artists, the two-day event featured RHT Family, produced by RIEHATA, as well as popular Filipino artists XONARA and J2X. The performances also brought together 33 young dancers selected by RIEHATA through auditions held in Japan and the Philippines. The project also provided a valuable opportunity for cross-border exchange among the next generation of artists from the two countries.
Audience members commented that “ Beyond entertainment, it creates lasting connections: new friendships, cultural understanding, and inspiration for younger dancers in both countries.” and “ So glad to see the collaboration of Japan and Philippines in a very good art form.” Through dance and artistic collaboration, the event celebrated the friendship between Japan and the Philippines while fostering exchange between emerging artists from both countries.
