INNOVATIVE CITY FORUM 2019 The Japan Foundation Asia Center Session

Japan

* Tickets for ICF2019 are scheduled to be released around Tuesday, October 15th.

The "Innovative City Forum" is an international forum where experts from Japan and abroad gather to discuss the future of cities, including Tokyo, with the theme of "drawing the future of cities and lifestyles."
In this forum, "Reverse IDEA-Searching for New Coordinate Axes from Asian Dynamism" will be held as a Japan Foundation Asia Center session. The Asian dynamism is full of "Reverse IDEAs" that we miss. Now that we are discussing the future, we would like to explore with you all the "New Coordinate Axes" that create free ideas and suggestive activities.
In the Keynote speech given by Alia Khan, Chairwoman of Islamic Fashion and Design Council (IFDC), we will hear about the journey of a particular faith based fashion that is taking the world by storm; and now we make its introduction to Japan. In the session1 "Art," artist Ei Wada will introduce a project to revitalize old consumer electronics and create and play new instruments. In the session2 "Medical Care," Dr. Toshiro Inaba and Indonesian Prof. Mangestuti Agil will discuss Asian philosophy and values related to the human body and spirit. At the end of the session, with the theme of "Reverse IDEAs," we will have a talk with the speakers to explore "New Coordinate Axes."

Program

[Keynote]
"The Evolution of Islamic Fashion in Current Affairs"

Fashion is a mirror that reflects the times, and it is also a communication tool that speaks a soft language. This however, can yield an insightful message. Now, we have invited Ms. Alia Khan, Chairwoman of the Islamic Fashion & Design Council (IFDC), to open with a talk about Islamic fashion and the global impact of her work. This, our introduction on the subject to Japan, will give insight on how Islam and Muslims are being rebranded in the global landscape through fashion. Stereotypes about Muslims are being smashed in non-Muslim countries with the advent of Modest Fashion taking center stage generating a stylish, elegant, and upright image that is attracting fashionistas of all backgrounds. The faith based principles, high demand, along with the style sense of Islamic fashion has breathed a new life in the global fashion industry. We will also be asking Ms.Khan about the values and philosophy behind her work, including business, economics, and information networks that are unique to Islam.

[Talk Session 2] Suggestions from Medical Care
"Asian philosophy"
- Reconsidering the mind and body from an Oriental Holistic Viewpoint -

Dr. Toshiro Inaba has a wide-ranging contact with not only the inside of medical care but also a wide range of fields for the future emergence of medical care and society. Today we welcome for Dr. Inaba to seek "medical care in the future" while working on the teaching platform of the university together with the medical field at the hospital, and Ms. Mangestuti Agil, a professor in Pharmaceutical Botany and Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia, who has been conducting surveys on original manuscripts of traditional medicines of some Indonesian ethnic groups to find a deeper understanding on the concept of the medicines and past efforts in reaching good health and well-being, we would like them to talk about differences in views (philosophy and values) and common terms. While listening to the potential of "medicine" up until the 21st century, there may be hints for modern medicine that shows a deadlock from the perspective of the body and spirit as an "Asian philosophy."
