Sanriku International Arts Festival 2019 "Sanriku×Asia Tsunagaru Project" KESEN ART & LIFE POTLUCK SHARING

The Japan Foundation Asia Center will hold the "Sanriku International Arts Festival (SAN Fes)" from 9th of February to 24th of March in 2019 together with co-organisers, Sanriku International Arts Promotion Committee and Japan Contemporary Dance Network at the coastal area of the Sanriku region that stretches out over 600 km. To further connect the Sanriku region with Asia, 5 collaborative projects called, "Sanriku×Asia Tsunagaru Project" will also be held during the festival. During the projects, various cultural exchange events will be carried out.

One of the Sanriku×Asia Tsunagaru Project is called "KESEN ART & LIFE POTLUCK SHARING." This project is delightfully going to hold art events, in which artists and designers from Asian countries create together with local people who dwell in Kesen region. This project aims to share together with more people a vision of the future environment and the way of how community's supposed to be, to contemplate together, and to make actions by engagement of locals with Asian people, re-discovery of art in everyday life, and making opportunities for an international dialogue.

ART & LIFE STUDIO Exhibition

Contents Two art programs take place in the exhibition. Document of DISPLACED: The RIKUZENTAKATA-MANILA Collaborative Art Project, which is an interdisciplinary cultural-arts research project focusing on post-disaster areas that a number of Rikuzentakata AIR residency artists from Asian countries such as the Philippines, Thailand and Japan have been developing together. The project showcases the outcomes of artists' research that reveal sever situations of the Philippines under the natural disaster and urban poor communities. Along with it, Rikuzentakata AIR 2018 residency artists have a group exhibition, which showcase their art projects created from the one-month stay, inviting also a local painter ASUKA in Yokota.

Contents Welcoming a photographer Naoya Hatakeyama from Rikuzenkatata City as a guest speaker, the talk session seeks possibilities of art discussing with Rikuzentakata AIR residency artists in terms of its theme ART & LIFE. At the first half the residency artists explain about their art project in Rikuzentakata, and at the second half the talk session refers to the DISPLACED project and overall of Rikuzentakata AIR.

Contents A flea market-type Marche is held by people from Kesen region and also outside of Iwate. Artists of the Rikuzentakata AIR who also would experience Kesen culture will be having own booth.

Workshop for kids "Home Kitchen by Asian Kids: Let's make a lunch box"

Admission Free. The workshop will end when all the stock has been finished.
Contents A workshop is held by MOTTO, an art unit for children, in the aim of mutual understanding about Asian diverse cultures through the way of making craft. The children who are approved as "kids facilitator" will have a presentation and a workshop for other children in the Marche.
